Linux Kernel Issue: WiFi (Hotspot) Connections Fail on Linux 6.14
Linux 6.14 is a recent release of the Linux kernel, and like any other software, it may have its own set of issues and bugs. In this article, we will discuss a specific issue related to WiFi (hotspot) connections failing on Linux 6.14. We will explore the problem, its symptoms, and the steps to reproduce it. Additionally, we will provide some context and relevant information to help maintainers and developers resolve this issue.
The problem is that mobile hotspot WiFi connections stop working shortly after they are initiated. They work normally for a few seconds (enough to send 1-3 pings) to a few minutes and then, although the connection is still there, it does not provide internet access (DNS resolution fails, pings don't go through, webpages don't load).
The behavior is somewhat difficult to reproduce consistently. Nevertheless, on the author's laptop (an Asus Zephyrus G16 2024), it occurs when it connects to a mobile WiFi hotspot (I have tried this with multiple phone models and brands and I also experimented with various frequency and WPA security settings). The NixOS configuration that exhibits this issue on the author's hardware can be found here.
The expected behavior is to have a stable, working WiFi connection on both regular and hotspot WiFi networks.

The author would love to provide relevant logs, but they don't really know how to get them (and then sanitize them).

Linux Kernel Issue: WiFi (Hotspot) Connections Fail on Linux 6.14 - Q&A
In our previous article, we discussed a specific issue related to WiFi (hotspot) connections failing on Linux 6.14. We explored the problem, its symptoms, and the steps to reproduce it. In this article, we will provide a Q&A section to help answer some of the most frequently asked questions related to this issue.
